It’s not surprising that fast action games played on a perfectly smooth touchscreen can get… messy. It’s been a thing since the dawn of mobile games. Other great unique features in Classic Abyss is how weapons work. You shoot them using the test touch and then drag method, which creates a dotted line that tells you the direction your weapon will fire. There’s also a subtle bullet time delay while you’re aiming, and along with the floating-around movement style, makes combat with a very subtle jump, aim, dodge, and shoot dance that resembles like this ballet. Once you get the hang of things, it all starts to feel second nature, and there are some really satisfying moments when you take a long shot or come close to being hit by an enemy bullet. It’s a fast-paced action game that’s been slowed down, but somehow it’s not like it’s ever been.
Weapons in Classic Abyss are also things worth highlighting. There are 4 different classes to play with and they all play quite differently. Each class also has 3 types of weapons and all of them can be upgraded multiple times. For example, the Knight’s main attack shoots a sword straight ahead, but the Archer’s main attack steals 3 arrows that spread out and arc in different trajectories. There is also a Warrior class and a Mage class, and they also have very different attack patterns. Oh yes, killing enemies and beating levels will get you points for scoring purposes and coins for upgrading purposes. You can also earn some random bonuses after a level, with an extremely simple equipment system that offers many necklaces or rings with different bonuses. It’s very basic, but it’s still a neat addition.
Retro Abyss’s The main campaign has 15 levels, but given the different gameplay of each class, playing through those 15 with each will feel like a pretty unique experience. It’s like the real game has 60 levels. The game is free to download with opt-in ads for more opportunities for post-level bonuses, and the free section also includes Knights and Archers classes. IAP 99 ¢ unlocks the full game, removes opt-in ad content, and unlocks two other classes, Warrior and Wizard. You also get a bonus of 50k coins on premium purchases. Basically, you can have a lot of fun with the free part of Classic Abyssand for just some money it’s a no-brainer to unlock the full game if you like what the free section has to offer.
