Toshakhana case: Islamabad court to indict former PM Imran Khan on February 7



ISLAMABAD (PAKISTAN): Former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan will be prosecuted in Toshakhana’s case by the Islamabad court on February 7, Geo News reported.
In the additional trial of the Islamabad local court, judge Zafar Iqbal on Tuesday announced the date of indictment after Khan failed to appear in court despite being subpoenaed.
The court also directed the head of PTI to submit a security bond worth Rs 20,000 to secure his attendance at the next hearing, Geo News reported.
Khan is facing criminal proceedings for allegedly selling gifts he received as Prime Minister of Pakistan, however, he has denied the charges.
The former prime minister, in his reply, asserted that the sale of the gifts he had purchased from the state treasury (Toshakhana) after paying Rs 21.56 million netted around Rs 58 million. One of the gifts included a stone wristwatch, a pair of cufflinks, an expensive pen and a ring while the other three included four gifts. Rolex watch.
Toshakhana is a division under the administrative control of the Cabinet Department and stores precious gifts given to rulers, congressmen, officials and officials of the heads of government and states. as well as foreign dignitaries.
In November of last year, Pakistan Election Commission (ECP), in a consensus ruling involving Toshakana, removed the former prime minister from power and ruled that the head of PTI was no longer a member of the Pakistani Parliament.
In the ruling, the ECP also stated that Khan had made “falsified statements and inaccurate statements, thereby he also committed the crime of corruption as defined under Sections 167 and 173 of the Elections Act. year 2017”.
It added that the offense was punishable under Section 174 of the Elections Act 2017 and directed legal proceedings and further action under Section 190(2) of the Elections Act.
According to Geo News, the ECP has also sent references to a trial court to initiate criminal proceedings in the case.
On November 22, the first-instance court continued the trial. Toshakhana references filed by the Election Commission against Khan for allegedly engaging in corrupt practices.
