Top college basketball prospect GG Jackson left North Carolina less than 10 days ago and has now decided to take his talent to a school just a little further south.
On Saturday, Jackson announced on Twitter his commitment to South Carolina.
Jackson also revealed that he will be reclassifying from the class of 2023 to the class of 2022. That means Jackson will be able to match first-year head coach Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks in the upcoming season.
The 6-foot-9 power forward is the highest ranked player in the show’s history. He is the No. 1 striker and No. 2 prospect in the 2023 division according to General ranking of Sports 247.
A native of Columbia, SC, Jackson announced his departure from North Carolina on July 14. With South Carolina located in his hometown of Columbia, it’s possible Jackson wanted to be closer to home.
As a student at Ridge View High School last season, Jackson averaged 22.1 points and 10.9 rebounds while winning the Gatorade Player of the Year award in South Carolina. He also averaged 14.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in June, and won the camp’s MVP title.
The Gamecocks finished their 18-13 season last year, just five years after being knocked out of the unexpected Finals. Landing a player like Jackson could help get the show on track.
