Top 10 undefeated college football teams through Week 5
USC (AP Rating: No. 6)
USC Trojan has been a popular choice for making College Rugby Rounds among sports bettors. It’s not hard to see why. Led by transfer QB Caleb Williams, the Troy attack looked unstoppable for the first three weeks of the season. With all the weapons at Williams’ disposal – Jordan Addison, Mario Williams, Tahj Washington, Brenden Rice, Travis Dye, Austin Jones – it looks like their offense can score whenever they want.
Then, last week, the Trojans went to Corvallis to take on a tough Oregon State team, and their offensive behavior didn’t work. But it was their defense, who was top in the country with 14 goals, that saved the day. The running defense looks tough at times, but the bend but don’t break philosophy seems to have worked so far. And the big matches have really put this team in the right position.
It’s still early days, but the Trojan has checked all the boxes so far as a real Playoff candidate. As they lead the league in required spins, they’re also the only team in the country that hasn’t given up. Lincoln Riley deserves a lot of credit for changing the culture of that team so quickly.
