Tony Bellew reprized the role of Ricky Conlan ‘Pretty’ in the Creed series for the third season.
The former world champion cruiser takes on the role in the first movie back in 2015, culminating in a battle in Liverpool against the hero, Adonis Creed.
The film’s star, Michael B. Jordan, later revealed that he received a real punch from Bellew during filming. In an episode of Graham Norton ProgramI said:
“Finally, we installed the camera and I really took a punch. See the crazy thing is, I wasn’t technically ‘knock out’. But I got hit, fell, and the camera panned. The first time we did it, Tony’s gloves got in the way so we couldn’t see – so we had to do it again.
“So we did it a second time, I got hit and I could feel the energy of the set. I was like, ‘It has to look great because everyone is quiet. I’m definitely seeing the stars, I’m not there, smelling the canvas and everything.”
“But yeah, I took a real punch, it felt like I was in a car accident four days later. Tony says he’s only 40% gone.
Well, fans will be happy to know that there are no hard feelings between this pair – in fact, they are geared towards good friends. At the London premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square, Jordan interrupted Boxing Social’s interview with Bellew to give him a tight hug.
latest movie saw Creed thrive in his boxing career when an old friend got out of prison. Damien – a childhood boxing prodigy – wants what the protagonist has, and the pair fight in the final act. From the trailer, it looks like Damien fights Bellew’s character, Conlan, on his way there.
The series takes place in the world of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky series, however it is the first installment in which the Hollywood legend is not involved.
The film will be released worldwide on March 3.
