Kelsey opened up to Giovanna Fletcher about the latest installment of her Happy Mum podcast, Happy Baby, which was released on Tuesday.

When asked about Bodhi’s birth, Kelsey confessed: ‘It was terrible because Tom was so emotional, obviously this time Tom was emotional for different reasons. He’s thinking “How much longer will I have with this baby?”. Oh my God, that’s pretty sad. ‘

‘It was really hard and I remember him going to the bathroom and the nurse saying: “Is he okay?” And I said, “He’s got a brain tumor, he’s just been diagnosed and he’s on treatment now, that’s why.”

‘He’s also very skinny and he’s been losing his hair and obviously this is too much for him.’

When Kelsey revealed that Tom was undergoing treatment while she was in labor and the day after she gave birth to Bodhi, the singer had to leave her and their newborn baby in the hospital to return for treatment.

The mother-of-two continued: ‘I’ve always felt guilty to Bodhi that he didn’t have a good experience for all of that, not that he’s going to remember it…. I think one day he’ll be like “I’m just happy because my dad witnessed my birth”.

‘I just feel sorry for Tom and you know what, because Tom was in this place where he wasn’t Tom at all – like literally I can’t describe it.

‘By the time he was diagnosed, I had already lost Tom. I felt guilty giving birth because I had to let him take half an hour to actually give birth’.

When it comes to the guilt of labor, Kelsey explained: ‘I’m not there for him, I’m not there for Tom, I can’t take care of him for half an hour.

‘And I just had this massive guilt and I was like “I’m having our baby, I shouldn’t have felt that way but I did,” and I obviously never told Tom that. because I don’t want him to feel that way’.

‘It’s a touching and poignant conversation about love, loss, grief, life and all its unpredictability.
