TOISA 2021: Meet the nominees – Mirabai Chanu

Mirabai Chanu started 2021 pretty well as she won bronze at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent. Mirabai lifted 86 kg in the recoil and then lifted 119 kg in the jerk and jerk, for a total of 205 kg for a world record.
As the only Indian female weightlifter to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, Mirabai made history by winning a silver medal in the 49 kg category with a total weight of 202 kg. Not only did Mirabai win India’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics, but she also set a new Olympic record with a 115 kg weightlifting and jerky lift.
Mirabai is the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at the Olympics and the second Indian woman to ever win an Olympic silver medal, after PV Sindhu.
For her efforts in 2021, Mirabai was nominated in the Indian Sports Awards (TOISA) 2021 category Female Weightlifter of the Year.
