He wants to play a game. Again. After last year Spiral: From the book of saws is the first movie in Saw franchise without Tobin Bell as John Kramer/Jigsaw, the actor will be returning to the franchise, according to a report from Limit line.
Bell first played the role in Saw in 2004, with his character eventually dying in Saw III. Of course, that doesn’t stop him from appearing in several more films in the form of flashbacks, photos, and images of his corpse. Now, after sitting out Spiral, he’s ready to return with the 10th film in the series, Saw X. Production is said to begin production this month.
Series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said: “It is thrilling to be reunited with Tobin. “His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that has made this series such a phenomenon, and his character is an active part of this one.”
Little is known about the next Saw movie, including any other returning or new characters, or even where in the Saw timeline it is set. After all, fans saw Kramer die pretty definitively in Saw III, but he managed to set up other games (and gang) to test people for more movies after that. Will he appear in more flashbacks? Was this set before he died? Is he somehow still not dead even though we’ve seen his neck literally cut? Is this a prequel to everything, somehow even though we’ve already done it?
Time will tell and hopefully answer some of those questions. Saw’s next film will be directed by Kevin Greuter, who edited the first five films, along with Jigsaw, and directed seasons 6 and 7. The film is slated for a May 27 release. 10 year 2023.
