Tim Tszyu won’t wait for winner Charlo vs. Castano

Via Allan Fox: Tim Tszyu took care of Terrell Gausha last Saturday night, beating him by a unanimous decision at round 12 in a one-sided match against a set of three judges at the Armory in Minneapolis. The score is 114-113, 116-111, 115-112.

Gausha (22-3-1, 11 KOs) started strong, knocking down the calm-looking Tszyu in the first round and landing well in the first quarter of the competition.

In the end, Tszyu’s body attack and powerful headers knocked 34-year-old Gausha down like a battery, to the point where his offense stalled in the second half.

Tszyu won’t be waiting for a winner in the May 14 showdown between 154-lb champion Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano if it means he needs to be sidelined for a long time.

Tszyu (21-0, 15 KOs) says IBF/WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo and WBO champion Brian Castano only fight once a year.

What should I do, wait around for my boxing life to end? Tszyu says he likely needs to wait a while before he gets his title against winner Charlo vs. Castano II.

“They fight once a year, and you have to stay active and earn as much money as possible and improve day by day. ”

If Tszyu is lucky, he’ll just have to wait to fight the winner of the Charlo vs Castano 2 fight until October or November. That’s the best case scenario for Tszyu.

Worse still, Tszyu will need to wait until next April or May, which would fit in with Jermell or Castano’s once-a-year battle schedule. It was better for Tszyu to stay busy while he waited to finally challenge the winner to the fight.

During the next 12 to 14 months that Tszyu is waiting for, he is capable of fighting two to three times. Good options for Tszyu to fight while waiting for Charlo or Castano:

  • Erickson Lubin
  • Sebastian Fundora
  • Israil Madrimov
  • Kell Brook
  • Tony Harrison
  • Carlos Adames
  • Charles Conwell
  • Liam Smith
  • Magomed Kurbanov
  • Bakhram Murtazaliev
  • Patrick Teixeira

“I dug deep and showed something that the core warriors are all about. You get up and keep fighting,” said Tszyu.

“I am not injured. It was a quick knockdown. I wasn’t injured at all,” Tszyu said of being knocked out in the first fight.

“I was a little too comfortable walking in. I don’t understand why I’m not so tense, and I’m so light. Usually, before a fight, I get nervous,” said Tszyu.

It wouldn’t matter if Tszyu said he wasn’t injured from his first round knockdown.

Crucially, he was cleanly knocked down by a former fighter other than Gausha, 34, and he was horribly beaten by a guy he should have taken. .

What the fight shows is that Tszyu doesn’t have the kind of power needed to stop guys with pretty chins. While Tszyu can punch, he does not possess Julian Jackson the kind of one-punch strength needed to kill tough old guys who can take a punch and know how to survive.

Since it’s unlikely Tszyu’s strength will improve significantly in the next 5 years, he needs to focus on blocking shots and using upper body movement to avoid getting hit a lot.

Kostya, Tszyu’s famous father, is also famous, but he still possesses a better defense than what we saw in Tim last night. Tim needs to follow his father’s instructions by learning to stay away from shots.

“I think Castano wins at the operational level. Charlo, his work rate is not high. He moved around and found that perfect shot. Castano’s working rates are spoilers,” said Tszyu as he predicted the outcome of the undisputed May 14 clash between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano.
