Tim Pool threatens to sue Bandcamp for unchecked censorship

Another day, another Big Tech platform suppression art.

Bandcamp, a major source for music lovers, has removed songs from podcast giant Tim Pool and veteran singer Brad Skistimas, better known as Five Times August.

As a result, Pool, host of the popular Timcast IRL, is weighing a crowdfunding lawsuit.

“We’re in a different kind of political and cultural context,” Pool said on a recent Timcast IRL show regarding the current wave of censorship. “We are exploring a community fund and a potential class action lawsuit [lawsuit].”

Pool has expanded on this plan, noting how customers who purchased his music through Bandcamp can no longer access tracks.

“I’m talking to a prominent attorney about censorship issues,” Pool said, noting how rapper Bryson Gray was previously dropped from Bandcamp. “The combined number of fans who purchased music through that platform would run into the tens of thousands. It will be a big lawsuit.”

Pool’s foray into music was an instant hit. Songs like “Only Ever Wanted” and “Will of the People” skyrocketed on the charts, thanks to the artist’s massive following.

Five Times August has been around for much longer and his most recent work, “The Silent War,” makes for stinging social commentary on media, the spread of the pandemic, etc.

Bandcamp removed the work of the aforementioned artists without warning or explanation. So far, efforts to find out why the songs suddenly disappeared have been fruitless.

That censorship is similar to other Big Tech platforms. Kickstarter and Crowdfundr both launch campaigns by comic book author Mike Baron without specifically sharing why his titles violated company policies.

Twitter, under the old regime, regularly Ball forbidden to speak without explanation.

Comedians also feel the wrath of Big Tech for telling jokes that don’t fit the progressive worldview. Dr. Fauci bit of Tyler Fischer was censored by TikTokexample, without explanation.

The “explanations” are simple, even if they are rarely stated.

Big Tech and its progressive leaders want to advance the debate about appropriateness and silence. The stars stir the pot and question authority, increasingly finding their voices silenced.

Censorship, like repressive regimes like China, punishes independent thought without clarification. That makes the canceled voice unsure of what he said wrong, and more likely to self-censor in the future.
