Tim Cook resigns as Apple CEO: “I will do it until…”
Tim Cook was the CEO of Apple for more than 13 years now, assuming the position after Steve Jobs resigned due to cancer in 2011. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple has launched several new product categories, including Apple WatchHomePod, AirPods and most recently the Apple Vision Pro headphones.
Speculation is starting to emerge about when Tim Cook might retire and hand over the reins of the company to another famous leader. Recently, in a Interview with WiredCook did touch on the topic, although his response may not have been as definitive as some expected.
What did Tim Cook say?
When asked about his retirement plan, Tim Cook shared that this is a question he often receives. He emphasized that he loves Apple and considers it a privilege to work there:
“I’ll do it until the voice in my head says, ‘It’s time,’ and then I’ll focus on what the next chapter looks like.”
He added, “But it’s hard to imagine life without Apple, because my life has been with this company since 1998. That’s been most of my adult life. And so I love it.”
This response, while serious, did not provide a clear timeframe for his retirement. For those who don’t know, Tim Cook has worked for Apple since 1998, meaning he has spent more than two decades with the company. To many people, it feels like he has devoted his entire life to Apple.

Who can replace Tim Cook as CEO?
The question of who can replace Tim Cook as Apple’s CEO is also a frequently discussed topic. Among potential candidates, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, is often mentioned. Federighi is famous for his charisma in Apple’s keynotes and unique presentation style.
Another candidate is John Ternus, the company’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Ternus has worked for Apple since 2001, initially joining the product design team. He has played a key role in the development of popular products such as all iPad, iPhone, and AirPods models. He was also instrumental in Apple’s transition from Intel processors to their own M-series silicon chips.
Lately, Ternus has appeared more in interviews and interactions with the media, an essential skill for any potential CEO. His growing media presence suggests he may be being groomed for a larger leadership role within the company.
