TikTok suspends new video uploads and live streaming in Russia
TikTok will temporarily restrict users in Russia from live streaming and uploading new videos to its platform, the company announced on sunday. It said it did so in response to the country’s recently enacted laws.ββLaw, there is a risk of up to 15 years in prison for individuals accused of spreading disinformation. “We have no choice but to suspend live streaming and new content to our video service in Russia while we review the safety implications of this law,” TikTok said.
The company went on to note that in-app messaging will not be affected by the decision. “We will continue to assess the evolving situation in Russia to determine when we can fully restore our services with safety first,” TikTok added.
