TikTok adds a new device time control to remind users to take a break

TikTok is rolling out more screen time controls to help users manage the amount of time they’re spending in the app. With this change, the company will add a new in-app dashboard that will more closely track the time people spend in the app.

The dashboard will show statistics like how much time you spend on the app, when you sue the app the most, and how often it’s opened. Additionally, TikTok users will now be able to set device time limits for how long they can use the app at any time.

Previously, the app provided device usage time controls that timed out after a specified daily limit. But with the new setting, users can, for example, choose to have the app prompt them to “take a break” if they’ve had the app open for an extended period of time.

TikTok is adding a teen wellness guide.

Changes happen when TikTok and its peers have about the impact of apps on teenagers. Earlier this year, lawmakers in the Senate introduced that will increase research on social media in an attempt to put in more “railings” to protect younger users.

Notably, TikTok now says it’s introducing additional device time limits for teens between the ages of 13 and 17. Teens will now see a “health reminder” digital” weekly and receive additional device time reminders when they have spent more than 100 minutes in the app on a single day.
