Thomas O’Halloran: Family of pensioner stabbed to death on mobility scooter in ‘complete numbness’ | UK News


The family of Thomas O’Halloran, who was killed in a violent attack while riding in his mobility scooter, have spoken of their “complete paralysis” since he we die.

The 87-year-old man died after being stabbed in the chest in Greenford, west London, on Tuesday.

Originally from Ennistymon in Co Clare, west of Ireland, the pensioner was born into a large family and lived in a small house on the outskirts of town.

He is survived by his sister, two brothers, niece and nephew.

One of his grandchildren, Thomas O’Halloran Jnr, described him as “always caring” and “always giving”.

“It’s so numb with the passing of our uncle,” he told Irish broadcaster RTE.

“It’s horrible, absolutely terrifying that something like this can happen to such a gentle, kind person.”

The late Mr O’Halloran was known throughout the community for his troupe to raise money for charity, and his grandson added that he was a “great musical talent”.

“Just a good person who always does his best to give back to everyone around him,” he said.

“At that stage in someone’s life, reaching 87 in itself is a feat, but for tragedy to take away from his immediate family and his extended family here in Ireland , it is inanimate. Completely inanimate.”

“The incident of violence, seemingly for no apparent reason, has completely shocked all of us.

“It’s so numbing, it’s unbearable to think about.”

‘This is a terrible thing’

In a separate interview with the Daily Mail, the pensioner’s younger brother, George, talked about the difficult situation they had growing up without electricity or running water.

“Our father Thomas and our mother loved music. So we were raised to listen to music. That’s where Tommy got his love of music,” he said.

“He’s a very kind person and gets along with anyone. This is a terrible thing that happened.”

Officers were called to Cayton Road to reports of a stabbing just after 4pm, and Mr O’Halloran was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe he was stabbed on West Avenue before attempting to travel about 75 yards on his mobile scooter to Runnymede Gardens, where he asked a member of the public for help. .

On Friday, the man accused of Mr O’Halloran’s murder, Lee Byer, appeared at Willesden Magistrates Court, where he was remanded.

Byer, from Southall, west London, stood in the dock wearing gray tracksuits and a prison T-shirt, with a jumper tied around his waist.

He only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and that he has no permanent residence.
