This is why royals wear pearls in funerals
Recently at lunch at Buckingum Palace, Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton paid tribute to the late Queen by wearing a three-strand pearl necklace from the Queen’s collection.
During a period of mourning, the women of the royal family including Megan Markle wore pearls. The Duchess of Sussex was seen wearing stunning pearl earrings. Even the Queen Consort was found in pearls on various occasions after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen will wear two pearl necklaces with her everyday attire and she is rarely spotted without her pearl necklace.
Symbol of grief
The reason why pearls were such an important royal choice as mourning jewelry was because it was seen as a symbol of grief. The tradition dates back to Queen Victoria.
After her husband Prince Albert died in 1861, Queen Victoria ditched all colors and wore black for 40 years. She will outfit her black outfit with jewelry or colorless pearls. In the 19th century, pearls represented tears and Victoria wore it for the rest of her life.
