This is how close LG is to being a real phone

LG is said to be releasing another phone with an unusual design after The wing as an answer to Samsung’s foldable device. At CES 2021, the company confirmed that it’s working on a phone with a rollable screen, and it’ll be out later that year. It never had to launch the device before turn off its cell phone business after its latest models, including the Wing, failed to gain traction. But now, a practice videos by Korean tech reviewer 뻘짓 연구소 (BullsLab) shows how close LG has come to launching a phone that’s simply called “Rollable”.

While Wing has a screen that can be rotated at the top of a smaller screen below, Rollable is designed to have a screen that stretches until the phone becomes a small tablet. In the video you will see how responsive the device is and how quickly it starts to expand after the YouTuber swipes the screen with three fingers. Whatever is displayed on the screen – even the live wallpaper – adjusts automatically. At one point, the reviewer placed three books next to the phone to show that its motor was strong enough to move the stake as it stretched.

In addition to the stretchable main screen, the back of the phone also acts as a secondary display that can hold a number of widgets, including widgets for the camera, calendar, and music. If you fire up the camera app from that secondary screen, you’ll be able to take selfies without powering on the main phone.

Based on the device BullsLab reviewed, Rollable will launch with a Snapdragon 888 CPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. Those are the top-level specs that will put the Rollable in the same category as flagships, such as Samsung Galaxy S21.

Since LG’s mobile business no longer exists, there is little or no chance for Rollable to launch. It should be noted that Oppo also introduced a rollable phone back in 2021, but it was just a prototype and we haven’t heard anything about it since.
