This Apple Watch feature might be wasting your money
The Apple Watch Ultra was my first cellular-enabled Apple Watch.
And, of course, as soon as I received it, I activated the cellular plan.
It only costs me a few dollars a month, so it will definitely be worth it.
But it is?
Did you know Apple gives you tools to discover the answer to this problem both on your Apple Watch and on your iPhone?
To see how much data you’re using through that cellular service on your Apple Watch, you can tap your way to Settings > Mobile on your Apple Watch, or open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap Mobile.
Review: I put the Apple Watch Ultra through Tough Mudder
The information you are looking for appears under Mobile data usage. There you will see how much data you have used for Current stage (this is because you paired your Apple Watch or reset the last stats — which you can see by scrolling to the bottom of the page) or, if your carrier supports this feature, data give This payment period and Final payment term.
I’ve used 2.6MB since booking this Apple Watch Ultra up in October. Most of this data is used for system services (general operation of the Apple Watch), the small remainder (under 200KB) is application data.
Honestly, I’m shocked at how little I used it.
I know I only pay a few dollars for this service, but even a few dollars feels like a lot for 2.6 MB.
Also: This is the worst feature of the Apple Watch Ultra
In my case, the reason I rarely use it is because I always have my iPhone with me wherever I go. So my Apple Watch is getting everything it needs through my iPhone’s internet connection. If I’m the type to go out and leave my iPhone at home (I can’t remember the last time I did that), I’d get more out of the service I’m paying for.
It’s worth it?
For me, yes. Sometimes, I can find myself quite far from civilization, and if my iPhone breaks, dies, or is lost, the ability to stay in touch is a useful backup safety feature.
