David Crosbyiconic co-founder of Crosby, Still Images, Nash & Young and Byrd people, known for his outstanding contributions to the music world, including twice being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — once per band. He is politically active, receiving a Grammy Awards along with CSN, appeared as an actor in various television shows and is known for struggling with addiction. But behind the scenes, he was also a father, welcoming no less than six children through multiple relationships during his 81 years of life. “A lot of people don’t have a really good, strong reason for them to believe their life is moving forward,” he once said, according to Fox News. “I, I know. I have a wife i love and a family that I love and a job that I love.”
Like the world mourn the loss of one of rock’s oldest and most recognizable names, here’s what to know about each of his children.
James Raymond
David was only 21 years old when he welcomed his first child, son James Raymond, with Celia Crawford Ferguson in 1962. They decided to adopt him, although James and his biological father were later reunited. In fact, James is also a musician – they performed together as a band CPR (Crosby, Pevar, & Raymond). According to David’s Wikipedia page, James has also performed with touring bands for Crosby & Nash and Crosby, Stills, & Nash.
Just two days ago, on January 17, 2023, Crosby’s oldest child was Instagram to announce a coming soon at the Lobero Theater in California to celebrate the venue’s 150th anniversary. David will appear with his son at the Santa Barbara theater on February 22 in “David Crosby and Friends.”
Erika Keller Crosby
Erika Crosby was born to David and Jackie Guthrie, although her age and date of birth are not known, as she has lived an unnoticed private life. However, it is known that she has four siblings from the same mother – Sarah Lee, girl, Abe, and Cathy Guthrie, all those who call folk singers Arlo Guthrie their father. Jackie was finally married to Arlo for 43 years, dying of cancer in 2012, every CBS news.
Erika also seems to be responsible for David’s three grandchildren. “Erika has three children, lives in Florida, and is an incredibly intelligent, wonderful woman that I visit often because I love her dearly,” he said, according to a 2019 Fox News article.
Donovan Crosby
Next David welcomes his daughter Donovan Crosby with Debbie Donovan. Little is known about Donovan, although the rock legend briefly mentioned her as well. Fox News. “Donovan didn’t really talk to me,” he said.
DjangoCrosby
Musicians and January dancewho later became his wife in 1987, welcomed a son DjangoCrosby sometime in the mid-1980s. “Django lived with me and was an absolute delight,” David said of his son, who was by his side when he died. It was Django’s mother who announced the rock star’s death in a statement issued to Diversity. She wrote: “Sadly after a long illness, our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. “He is surrounded by his wife, confidant Jan, and loving son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will live on through his legendary music. Peace, love and harmony to all who know David and the people he touches. We will miss him very much. At this time, we appreciate and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
Bailey Jean Cypher
David’s two youngest children were born to him, although he did not raise them. Melissa Etheridge and her ex-partner Julie Cypher first acknowledged David as a sperm donor for their two children in a January 10, 2000 story in Rolling Stone. Bailey Jean Cypher is the first of two children, born in 1997, now nearly 25 years old. She also graduated from NYU.
“I am not the parent of Bailey and Beckett, the two of you with Melissa [Etheridge and her ex-partner Julie Cypher]but I really love them,” as reported by David in 2019, every Fox News. “Beckett is somewhere in Colorado and Bailey just graduated from NYU today. They all clearly learned from my mistakes, because none of them cared about heavy drugs. I think they saw what happened and avoided it, which is definitely a great thing.”
On January 19, Bailey took to Instagram to pay tribute to her biological father. “Rest in peace, Croz,” she caption a photo his playing guitar. “Thanks for the tunes, the dimples and the love.”
Beckett Cypher
Like Bailey, Beckett Cypher was born to Julie Cypher and Melissa Etheridge in 1998, with David Crosby as a sperm donor. And according to the 2000 Rolling Stone, Melissa once said, “Beckett looks like David, doesn’t he?” However, Beckett’s life ended tragically when he died of various causes related to opioid addiction in May 2020 at the age of 21.
“My son Beckett, 21 years old, fight to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today,” wrote Melissa in part a statement on Twitter. “He will be remembered by those who loved him, Family and Friends. My heart was broken. I am grateful to those who have sent their condolences and I feel their sincere love and grief.”
