Chris Eubank Sr continues to condemn those involved in staging a fight between his son and Conor Benn.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, October 8 in London, was sensationalized at the last minute following news that Benn had failed a doping test. The change in plans – referred to by promoters as postponing rather than canceling – comes after multiple statements from Chris Eubank Sr that the fight was too dangerous to wage.
The British boxing legend has now spoken to By TalkSPORT Jim White. When he repeated his claim that the simmering situation was a murder plot, White pointed out that it was a strong accusation. Senior disagrees.
“What does strong mean? That’s not strong, that’s very polite to anyone who wants to kill my son. Why is it strong? You don’t know – if you’re 33, you can’t do what you used to do at 20, which is lose weight and be able to handle that weight loss. “
“To bring a man down 3lb below the middleweight limit, to get him down to 157lb is a literal murder – and they want me to be an accomplice to it. They asked me to get money to join DAZN and be a part of it. They ask me to stay in my son’s corner, they are trying to pay me to stay in my son’s corner, they want me to be an accomplice in my son’s murder.”
The father has been worried about his son since the war was announced. He begged Nigel Benn to join him in canceling it, and even urged the public to boycott it. Despite all that, Eubank Jr is adamant that he has safely lost weight. Eubank Sr points out that, although Junior didn’t listen to him and wanted to move on, he eventually got his way.
“I had to be quiet behind the scenes and help them make the right decisions. And the right decision was made the day before the fight.”
It is unclear if he was hinting that he was directly involved in postponing the fight. As for future plans, fans must wait for Benn to speak out about the doping results before everything is rescheduled. – although it seems certain that Eubank Sr will remain the strongest opponent of the war should it appear again.
