Them’s Fightin’ Herds comes out as epic Christmas freeware today
Everyone likes it They are fighting the herd, an accessible fighting game about controlling ponies punching other ponies. I don’t know if it’s as good as its name suggests, but I do know it’s the latest game Epic is streaming for their 15 days of Christmas free. Grab it now, keep it forever – but only if you click the button before the next game starts.
Them’s Fightin’ Herds started out in 2011 as a My Little Pony fan game called Fighting Is Magic, but developer Mane6 moved it up when Hasbro tell them noYou can’t blatantly copy the cartoon characters from our favorite children’s TV show in your violent fighting game. After a rebranding and a $586,000 IndieGoGo fundraiser later, they launched on Steam in 2015. It’s nice that stopping and shutting down doesn’t completely cancel what they’re stopping.
There is a story mode, as well as local and online multiplayer. I hope it recreates the meaningless drama of a Mortal Kombat campaign but with ponies instead of robots and demons.
It’s still being updated, with new DLC character Texas the bull just added today in version 4.0. However, you will need to pay for his Season 1 Pass or Personal Character Pack.
You can get Them’s Fightin’ Herds for free from Epic Store, as long as you do so by 4 p.m. tomorrow when the next game takes place. There’s a big Christmas sale there too.
