Of the world The first all-electric passenger plane finally made the flight. The Alice Deviation Plane made its maiden voyage on Tuesday, after a series of failures and ongoing delays made the historic flight – officially bring passenger plane in Age EV.

Alice’s first flight was short and sweet, lasting eight minutes in all CNN. Aircraft EV took off early Tuesday morning from Grant County International Airport in Washington state, and reached its maximum altitude 3,500 feet high.

The aircraft’s maximum operating speed is 260 knots, just under 300 mph, powered by two 640 kW (858 hp) electric motor, such as GeekWire but the battery capacity is not perfect yet.

CEO Gregory Davis said the company is targeting a maximum range of 200 to 300 nautical miles, which would allow passenger planes to make flights between 150 and 250 miles. Its maximum payload is expected to be up to 2,600 pounds, and Alice will carry two pilots and up to nine passengers.

Of course, Tuesday’s test flight of the EV passenger plane was without any passengers. This is just the first in a series of baby steps, according to test pilot Steve Crane. But it’s still a significant step forward for passenger jet propulsion methods. The company has been monitoring the progress, said CNN:

This is history […] We haven’t seen a change in propulsion technology on airplanes since we switched from piston to turbine engines. It was the 1950s, the last time you saw a brand new technology like this come together.

The next thing is to analyze all the flight data and compare it with Deviation models developed in the lab. The company expects production Alice models to be ready and FAA certified by 2027, but that could change.

The pace of development of battery technology is happening rapidly, which will affect the final production of Alice in both good and bad ways. If Eversion can use lighter and more energy-efficient batteries, it could improve the aircraft’s performance. But the improvements will likely increase the cost of zero-emission aircraft.

Three years ago, Efining said the plane would have a list price of $4 million, price precious The pin metals have rallied, E bias says not based on the price mentioned initially. Airlines may end up paying more come 2027, with a capacity of 9 passengers and a range of up to 250 miles, that doesn’t sound like a bargain. But this is a start.

Regional airlines Cape Air and Global Crossing Airlines, both based in the US, have ordered 75 and 50 Alice planes, respectively. Cape Air says it flies more than 400 regional flights a day in cities across the US and the Caribbean, and Alice can “easily” cover 80% of its flights.

It’s not just regional airlines are interested in Alice. DHL Express plans to have a small fleet of electric planes, and the courier has ordered 12 Alice eCargo planes. Just like passenger aircraft, the cargo version will have a relatively low capacity compared to traditional aircraft. But, again, the all-electric plane has really just taken off.
