The Witcher 3 has sold more than 40 million copies, Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 18 million

CD Projekt Red released Income in fiscal year 2021revealed new sales numbers for both the Witcher franchise and its newest game, Cyberpunk 2077.

Perhaps no one is surprised that both The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 series are selling well with CDPR. In fact, as of today, The Witcher series has sold more than 65 million copies, with more than 40 million of them in The Witcher III: Wild Hunt alone. On the other hand, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 18 million copies.

The last time CDPR announced sales for its latest RPG, the studio revealed last April that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 13.7 million copies in 2020. That means that from the end of 2020 to now – which is about 16 months – Cyberpunk 2077 has sold about 5 million copies. That’s still an impressive number, to be sure, but it speaks to a larger drop in sales of the title in 2021.

Of course, many studios would be content with selling 5 million in any given time period but for CDPR, a studio that has the Witcher series in its portfolio past the 65 million mark sold, 5 million may not be as impressive. The perceived drop-out rate may be due to word of mouth about the status after debut, it’s been removed from the PlayStation store for six monthsand more.

CDPR has worked hard to change the mind about Cyberpunk 2077, however, just released Update 1.5, fix many problems of RPG and do Now is the perfect time to play the game. However, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 will remain in the shadows of CDPR’s Witcher series, especially now that we know The studio is working on a new Witcher game that will be made in Unreal Engine 5.

However, as CDPR’s 2021 earnings show, Cyberpunk 2077 could get a boost as its Netflix anime, Cyberpunk Edgerunnersreleased this year.
