The Walking Dead: Dead City Releases in June

The Walking Dead’s flagship series may have ended in November, but the franchise is still going strong. During the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2023 Press Tour, AMC announced that The Walking Dead: Dead City – which stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith – will to air in June 2023, according to Diversity.
Set two years after the conclusion of the original series, Dead City will see the duo travel to Manhattan. The limited series will last six episodes and delve into the not-so-comfortable and divisive relationship between the two characters – Maggie still resentful of Negan for killing her husband, Glenn.
“Lauren and Jeffrey have always been great collaborators, and now we’re taking that collaboration to the next level with a series that will take these characters to their limits with the world – and with each other. ,” Gimple said in a statement last year. “We’re all excited to take you into a brand new TWD epic, completely different for all time.”
Eli Jorné, The Walking Dead’s screenwriter and co-executive producer, steps in as host and executive producer for Dead City. The spin-off is overseen by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead Universe. An official synopsis reads: “The Walking Dead: Dead City envisions popular characters Maggie and Negan traveling into post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The ruined city contains filled with the dead and the inhabitants who made New York City their own world of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.”
AMC has further announced that the untitled spin-off starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will return as Rick Grimes and Michonne, currently in production this year and out in 2024.
