Voice of the Devil (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) first start for Peter Brant and coach Chad Brown in the GII Churchill Distaff Turf Mile S. Saturday. The 5-year-old mare, which had just slipped as a runner-up in the G1 French 1000 Guineas 2020 and again as a third in last year’s G1 Prix Rothschild, was purchased by Brant for 1.95 million euros in the month’s Arqana sale. 12 years ago.

Brant and Brown will also be represented in the Distaff Turf Mile by In Italian (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). The 4-year-old was GIII Honey Fox S.’s flashy string-to-wire supplier on March 5 in her most recent start and has only made her fifth trip to seventh place. She was tabbed a ‘Rising star TDN’ after her first score at Belmont last May, but was sidelined with pneumonia until the addition of her Tampa grant on January 12.

Roger Attfield sent the hybrid of Charles Fipke Lady Spectrum (Sightstown). The ‘Rising star TDN’ was sidelined for a year after winning the GI Natalma S. 2020 in her second career start. She came back with a pair of wins at Woodbine, including GII Bessarabian S., but has not won in four starts since leaving Canada. Fast pace was never a threat after blowing up on April 16 GI Jenny Wiley S., but still went home third at Keeneland last time out.
