A village pub owner yesterday appeared in court accused of stabbing an employee.

Luisa Santos, 46, allegedly stabbed a kitchen knife in Hannah Pritchett’s hip before hunting down the 18-year-old and assaulting her a second time.

A court heard the case at the Three Horseshoes in Princethorpe, Warwickshire, which occurred at lunchtime on Saturday after the landlady had ‘instructed’ her partner to tell Ms Pritchett to leave.

Prosecutor Baldev Atwal said Santos told her partner ‘there will be a confrontation if she (Miss Pritchett) doesn’t leave.’

He claimed: ‘She went into the kitchen…and without warning, stabbed the knife into Miss Pritchett’s left hip. “

The owner of the Three Horseshoes, 46-year-old Luisa Santos, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing one of her employees twice with a kitchen knife.

Hannah Pritchett, 18, had to go to University Hospital in Coventry for her injuries, which were 17cm (6.7in) deep.

Coventry judges were told that customers including children were in the pub when the teenager was kicked out, where she was ‘trying to find sanctity in her car’.

The court heard that Ms Pritchett was lucky to escape internal trauma, with the first wound penetrating 17cm (6.7in). The pub is on the A423 just steps from Princethorpe College, a £4,617-a-term independent Roman Catholic day school. former British cricketer Ian Bell among its alumni.

The incident happened just before 2pm. Ms Pritchett, who also suffered a wound to her buttock, was taken to University Hospital in Coventry, where she is believed to be undergoing surgery. Warwickshire Police later said she suffered no life-threatening injuries.

Santos appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place. She spoke only to confirm her name and address, which is believed to be the pub, and is being held until a follow-up hearing next month.

A resident living nearby said: ‘I was informed that the young employee was stabbed in, but ran out to escape the owner and collapsed.

‘I saw a few customers and residents standing around outside when the ambulance arrived. The girl was able to stand up on her own before being taken to an ambulance. ‘

Three Horseshoes is owned by the Stonegate Group, which operates more than 4,500 pubs – making it Britain’s largest pub company. A spokesman said: ‘We are aware of an incident at the Three Horseshoes where a member of the pub team was injured. “
