When collaborations between properties or cross-merchandise occur, there can be varying degrees of success. Sometimes a brand or character isn’t well represented. It can be superficial. Uni Sanrio Tamagotchi Characters model is an example of a crossover done perfectly, with great representation and integration of Sanrio characters alongside Tamagotchi staples.
As with Hello Kitty Nano VersionWe’re not actually raising Hello Kitty or a Sanrio character in this Tamagotchi Uni. We’re raising a regular Tamagotchi character. However, the Sanrio elements are actively involved. This is because the Tamaverse implementation grants access to Sanrio Puroland. So if someone already owns a Uni unit, that’s it. $7.20 per ticket to unlock that area, elements and evolutions can occur. If you don’t have units, then $69.99 for a product that includes both a ticket and a figure with Hello Kitty ribbons all over its face.
Once you get your ticket, which can be done as soon as your first Tamagotchi is in the baby stage, it’s easy to start equipping the unit with Sanrio components. Once your first character becomes a baby, you can select the Tamaverse and go to Sanrio Puroland by selecting the DL Zone. You’ll be greeted by other characters from those variants, which is fun. It gives you a chance to see what you can shoot.
From there, you can start seeing actual Sanrio characters in Tamagotchi Uni or purchasing virtual items. When you reach the Sanrio Puroland Entrance, you will see a parade of mascots. These mascots can vary. At one point, I saw a variety of characters including Pompompurin, Little Twin Stars, and lesser-known characters like Usahana and Cogimyun. Fluffy Ribbon House is the designated mini-game for this area, which allows you to participate in Hello Kitty Ribbon Jump. This game is quite simple, as you have to tap left or right when instructed, but it pays more than the usual mini-games to get three stars. (600 Gotchi Points!) This game also features appearances from Mimmy White and Tiny Chum.
However, it’s the Kawaii Shop in Sanrio Puroland that really makes this Tamagotchi Uni a success. Yes, you can redecorate with accessories, furniture, and one of two 500G room styles. However, it’s the food, snacks, and items that really make the difference. I bought a 200G Kuromi Diary and after turning it into a character exclusive toy, I had a Melodytchi dressed as Kuromi. For my second character, I just fed them 100G Star Pancakes for extra happiness. The result? A little Unimarutchi character.
I really like how things open up when you first enter Sanrio Puroland. Especially since the Tamagotchi Uni Sanrio Characters crossover items are so affordable. Getting 600 G from a perfect performance in Ribbon Jump is enough to redesign a room and have a snack. I’ve played it twice and I bought Kuromi Diary and some other toys in case I decide I want to play with Cinnamoroll. I don’t have to spend a lot of time saving up for the items I want and can therefore evolve.
What’s also cool is that the Tamagotchi Uni toys that tie in with Sanrio characters also summon mascots to play with your character. Kuromi’s Diary means you’ll get to see Kuromi, My Melody, and Baku. Purin’s Bag brings Pompompurin. When you play with the Cinnamon Cup, you’ll see Cinnamoroll and a bunch of other puppies he’s befriended. I love the attention to detail.
I love how Uni Sanrio Characters Tamagotchi and Sanrio Puroland Tamaverse have been handled. It really makes it easy to quickly start integrating mascots into your virtual pet’s life. Not to mention that it also means there’s a low barrier to unlocking certain characters. This is a perfect example of how to make one of these crossovers work.
