The Claremont Institute, a right-wing think tank in California, has grown increasingly influential in Republican circles in recent years. In 2016, its goal was to make Donald J. Trump a legitimate candidate — and then it did.

Journalist Elisabeth Zerofsky traces the roots of the divisive organization, explaining how it makes the intellectual case for Trumpism but also how, with its ties to Ron DeSantis and John Eastman, the consulting organization has become the home for “counter-revolutionary” politics far beyond the former President.
