The son of a Norwegian princess was arrested for rape
The son of Norwegian Princess Mette-Marit has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Marius Borg Høiby, 27, is the stepson of the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon, but has no royal title or official duties.
On Tuesday, Norwegian police said Mr Høiby had been charged with having sex with “a person who is unconscious or otherwise unable to resist”.
Mr Høiby, who is said to have denied the rape allegation, is facing a number of charges for crimes allegedly committed against four other victims.
In a statement, police said the rape was “concerning [a] sexual intercourse without intercourse” and the victim “is said to be unable to resist the act”.
According to local press, the Norwegian palace refused to comment on Mr. Høiby’s latest arrest.
Mr Høiby was arrested by police at 23:12 (22:12 GMT) on Monday in a car with a victim in a separate incident.
In connection with this separate incident, on August 4, he faces charges of violence and criminal damage.
Police said Tuesday that the charges had been expanded to include “abuse” in intimate relationships and “another breach” of a restraining order against the same victim.
They added that there have been reports of driving without a valid driving license.
Mr. Høiby’s residence in Skaugum, near where the crown prince and his wife live, was also searched by the police.
Mr Høiby was also previously accused of abusing ex-girlfriends Julianne Snekkestad and Nora Haukland, as well as threatening a man.
