The Security Council asked the Houthis to stop attacking in the Red Sea



The Houthi attacks began late last year in what the militant group said was an act of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, following the Israeli offensive – itself a response to an October 7 Hamas-led terrorist attack on southern Israel.

Operated by a Japanese company, Galaxy Leader was seized last November and contributed to escalating tensions across the Middle East due to the war in Gaza.

In a separate decision, Security Council extended the mission of the United Nations Disengagement Observation Force (UNDOF) in the Golan for six months until December 31, 2024.

Extending sanctions on the Democratic Republic of Congo

Furthermore, the Council also decided to extend the sanctions regime on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) until 1 July 2025, along with the mandate of the corresponding Group of Experts until 1 August 2025.
