The secret diaries of women protesting in Iran


Ever since a young woman, Mahsa Amini, was killed while in the custody of Iran’s ethics police for not wearing a hijab properly, the country has been rocked by daily protests.

Both women and men, who wanted a life unconstrained by the strict rules of the Islamic Republic, took part.

We know Mahsa Amini’s story, but what are the daily risks and dangers women face as they continue to protest?

Over two and a half months, the women submitted their thoughts in the form of voice notes, writing and drawings to the BBC’s Saba Zavarei. Here is their diary, with the name changed for their safety.
