A few months ago, we reached out to Nintendo Life readers by Summer transformation surveya thick questionnaire was designed (with your help) to assess the state of things on Nintendo and Switch as the console pushes through its eighth year – and as our thoughts inevitably turn to its successor.
This 70-question series covers everything from the Switch eShop to Joy-Con drift, your previous Nintendo consoles to your hopes for the future, not to mention a selection of site consultants. your favorite Nintendo-centric web. Since the summer ended, our data monkeys have been crunching the numbers and it’s time for the results!
All questions were optional and not everyone who participated answered every single question – responses varied between 6,000 and 10,000 people, so a big thank you to all who took the time to respond.
Let’s dive into the data, shall we? Start with you.
You & Your Gaming Habits
In terms of location, just below 50% of you are in America with 20% of you residing in the UK and moving around one third of you live outside the US/UK. 52% of you have at least one child in your family, of which 25% said you have Play Switch game together co-opPretty.
When it comes to weekly gaming time, about 33% of respondents do up to five hours of gaming per weekplay a little more between six and ten hours, the remaining time will double.
Action, Adventure, Platformer and RPG are the popular genres, with 61% said they mainly play single-player Switch games. Breath of the wild (18%), Animal pass (15%) and Tears of the Kingdom (12%) leads the way for Switch games with the most hours logged.
17% of respondents are using a gaming PC, while 15% complement their Switch with a PS5 compared to 12% with an Xbox (Xbox Series X: 7%, Series S: 5%). Only 0.3% have never owned a Nintendo console before (most commonly Wii and 3DS).
Switch – Games, Online, Hardware
Focusing on the Switch experience, of all the Switches you own, 56% are ‘Standard Switches’, compared to 16% ‘Switch Lite’ and 27% are ‘OLED Switches’.

Looking at the eShop, ‘Sufficient’ is the most common description of the eShop browsing experience, followed by ‘Poor’, so there’s definitely room for improvement there, Nintendo. 99% of respondents have a Nintendo Account, of which 17% have accounts in multiple regions.
A quarter of respondents create their own lists or spreadsheets to keep track of upcoming games, with 19% turning to good use Deku offers and 16% use Nintendo Life’s Game collection function.
Moving on to Nintendo Switch Online, one in five respondents did not subscribe to NSO. Among those who do, 23% do not play retro games through appswith only 20% playing once a week or more. However, people generally agree that Nintendo Switch Online offers good value.

Moving on to the hardware – and specifically the controller – a A whopping 53% experienced Joy-Con drift issueswith loose Joy-Con rails affecting 16%. Only 20% said they had no problems with the Switch’s hardware. Regarding pad preferences, 64% like the Pro Controller than Joy-Con (22%), the rest prefer third-party alternatives.
More than half, 51% of you think the Switch’s battery life is ‘Good’ with 16% rating it ‘Excellent’ and just 5% rating it ‘Poor’. Besides, 55% of Switch Players Are Mostly ‘Docked’ and 44% in ‘Handheld’. Nintendo really got the balance right with this one, didn’t they?
Clearly, out of all you lovely readers, you own one 93,196 loose amiibo And 22,714 canned boyfriend. Will no one release them?!
Of the 600,000+ games you own, 58% are purchased digitally through the eShop and 42% were purchased as physical games. When asked about their preference for physical games, the most important factor was having a physical copy of the game that cannot be deleted from the eShop.

1 in 20 respondents said they had experimented with modifying the system’s firmware in some way. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the survey was that there was only one trivial 0.6% have been take their Switch to a rooftop party. Scandalous!

Regarding the effects of Our review30% of you say our reviews ‘Often’ influence your purchasing decisions, and a further 47% say ‘Sometimes’. Only 8% of you said our rating of ‘Never’ resonated with you.
When it comes to your favorite Nintendo series, The Legend of Zelda (39%) won by a mile. super mario (14%) took silver, with Pokémon (9%) in third place and Metroids (6%) and Xenoblade (5%) — also everyone’s favorite series that introduced them to the Switch — are close behind. Of course, Exactly The answer is F-Zero, only 0.8% of you choose.
fox starsKid Icarus and Wario Land are the non-Switch franchises you’d most like to see return, and as expected, a brand new Mario or Zelda would be the most likely to make you pick up a Switch 2 on day one. Speaking of which, let’s look to the future…

31% want to see Game Pass come to Switch. A similar (not necessarily the same, of course!) share of users said they would not be interested in having streaming apps on the Switch, although Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video are top choices. head for others.
