The publisher of Tomorrow, And Tomorrow, And Tomorrow still does not credit Brenda Romero

Last month, veteran game developer Brenda Romero called Tomorrow, And Tomorrow, And Tomorrow – the best-selling book Novel about three aspiring game developers – for letting her off the confirmation page. Romero .’s famous board game Train inspired the Video Game Solution in the book, as author Gabrielle Zevin herself admits, leading to Romero speak out. Book publisher Knobf Doubleday has now issued a statement refusing to credit Romero because “the only game listed in the author’s thanks is a video game.”

Talking to washington articles, Knopf senior vice president of advertising, Todd Doughty said, “Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow is a work of fiction and when it comes to fiction, every author draws from the world around them. Surname.” Doughty went on to say that Zevin never played Romero’s “undistributed board game,” but it served as one of the many inspirations for the novel.

Doughty also points out that the novel is “not an academic or non-fiction text” where full citations and bibliography are to be expected. The publisher “stands behind Gabrielle Zevin and her work.”

Romero called the statement “very disappointing.” on Twitter, “especially from a novelist who writes about discredited women. See this space. Romero took issue with mentioning that Train was “undistributed”, noting that “How does that apply to other single works of art such as paintings?”

“It seems like a small thing to bother about, but it’s not to me,” Romero speak. “Train is probably the best game I’ve ever made.” She went on to say, “Nothing is taken for granted. For a game to be taken down without credit – a game about the Holocaust, for God’s sake – is unacceptable.”
