Kia has raised the price of the Carens, its latest three-row MPV in India, from this month. The second price hike overall, occurring eight months after Carens was launched on February 15 with an introductory price of 8.99 lakh (old gallery). According to the new listing, Kia has increased the price by up to 50,000 depending on variations. Most variants have received the price increase of 30,000. The price of the Diesel 6AT Luxury variant plus the top 7 seats, launching at 16.99 lakh, now will be priced 17.99 lakh (old gallery).

Weeks after launch, Kia adjusted the introductory price with increments of up to 70,000 on selected variants. With another one Raised by 50,000, Carens base price is now almost reached 10 thousand (old gallery). The biggest increase is only for the 7-seat 1.5 6MT Prestige variant, slightly higher than the base 1.5 6MT 7-seat version. Premium and Prestige 1.4-litre manual variants received a price increase of 10,000 each. They are currently priced between 11.30 lakh to 14 thousand (old gallery).

Most of Carens’ top diesel variants receive a uniform price increase 30,000 starting from the high-end 7-seater version with manual transmission to the most advanced version, Luxury Plus 7-seat automatic transmission. The only exception here is the manual 7-seat Luxury version which has received an increase of 35,000.

Carens petrol variants with 1.4-litre turbodiesel received mid-range price increases 10,000 and 20,000. While the smaller gain was limited to the lower variants, the Luxury and Luxury Plus variants received larger increases.

Carens is one of Kia’s most popular products. It is currently the third best seller after Seltos and Sonet with 5,479 units sold last month. It also has one of the longest wait times, up to 75 weeks, of all vehicles sold in India currently. Waiting time is from 74-75 weeks for the Prestige version with the 1.5-liter gasoline engine combined with a manual transmission. Waiting times are as low as 18-19 weeks for the Luxury and Luxury Plus 7 variants with the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and manual transmission.

Carens is offered with three engine options. The 1.5 liter petrol engine can deliver 115 hp and 144 Nm, while the 1.5 liter diesel has better torque output of 250 Nm. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine can produce 140 PS of power and 242 Nm of peak torque.

In its long list of rivals, Carens has a direct confrontation with Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari. It also competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 at one end of the price spectrum and the Innova Crysta from Toyota Motors at the other end. Then there are three-row SUVs like the MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV700 to fight.
