Our favorite extraterrestrial friend, ET, has a new home after it sold for $2.56 million at an auction over the weekend.
Original mechatronic model of the alien from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic ET aliens titled “Icons and Idols: Hollywood” by Julien’s Auctions auction. Held in partnership with Turner Classic Movies, the auction featured more than 1,300 Hollywood artifacts.
The mechatronic model is considered an engineering masterpiece, has 85 points of movement and has earned Italian special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi. third Oscars in visual effects in 1983.

“One of the rarest and most remarkable Hollywood memorabilia ever put up for auction, Julien’s is honored to present one of the last remaining, authentic, realistic animated ETs used in the making. the making of the beloved and cherished blockbuster ET Alienshas won the hearts of audiences around the world,” the auction website said.
According to the auction website, the little alien’s stretchable neck was inspired by one of Rambaldi’s own paintings of women in his native Italy, which he painted with long necks. Rambaldi believes the neck could act as an “empathetic” way for aliens to interact with humans.
“We all see him as a breathing living being, he’s a real being, I think for me, in my experience, he’s the eighth wonder of the cinematic world. ,” Spielberg speakby auction.
