If Drive to survive anything on Netflix has taught us anything, it’s that people love the story behind the story and it can boost the popularity of a sport if they allow people to watch it. But you don’t need a special Netflix to enter some personalities and characters. Twitter can do it for you, as long as the player feels comfortable being himself (within reason. There’s a border Aubrey Huff).
NWSL has had some top Twitter beef over the past month, and it has helped improve what’s already on the field. It also helps that it probably involves the league’s brightest star in Trinity Rodman and pushes the overall story of how the USWNT will be passed on to a younger generation and feedback on that once they get started. prepare for the really important games i.e. 2023 World Cup.
It started a few weeks ago during the league’s Challenge Cup, which acts as a pre-season for everyone before the regular season begins at the end of the month. The geographical and historical rivalry between New York and DC also plays an important role. Two weeks ago, Gotham FC visited the defending league champions Washington Spirit, when this happened:
It’s Washington’s Ashley Sanchez, one of the best players in the league, Messi hitting Gotham’s Ali Krieger right on her butt. Pretty cool moment, isn’t it? And certainly Spirit is not above promoting the feats of one of their main stars.
Even so, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Krieger’s wife, a Gotham keeper Ashlyn Harris, ran to Krieger’s defense, although you have to say it was a rather weak sauce she equipped for battle:

See the highlights, this doesn’t sound like a slip-up to the point of ruining one’s business, but hey, no one wants to see their loved one become a national FoF unless absolutely necessary.
Trinity Rodman definitely didn’t play that game:
This is not the end of it. Harris has entered “know your role” territory and tries to play the veteran card:
See, the problem is Rodman Candlestick feel pretty confident these days, and in fact, it’s hot. She dragged Spirit in the NWSL championship game to victory, winning the tournament’s Rookie Of The Year, no less than a top-year gamer of the tournament. She is definitely the future of the USWNT, and can make a serious argument that she is the present.
But Rodman doesn’t need people like me to say that for her, because thanks to the format of the Challenge Cup, it’s only been a couple of weeks until Spirit heads to New York to see Gotham again, where Rodman messed up and did this. :

While we were at it, Spirit’s first goal was scored by Sanchez on a stunning free-kick:
Spirit crushed Gotham, not only with a score of 3-1, but also fired up to 18 shots on target of Gotham. And who can watch the ball happily and if a little brazen of her three times? An Ashlyn Harris.
There’s something satisfying about watching a vet try and slap an infant player just because he’s young, and the player throws that horse right in the trash where it belongs on the field. Rodman is the truth and she pretty much intends to show everyone it’s the truth. If only for that, here’s a fun little thing that happens that the NWSL has to secretly laugh at, even if they can’t quite accept it.
On a deeper level, there will be a fight for the USWNT next year. There are a number of established and entrenched players that may have found their position critically endangered by the time they boarded their flights to Australia and New Zealand. Rodman may be the United States’ most dynamic forward, and if she weren’t for Catarina Macario, who is only 22. Mal Pugh was a regular USWNT before but it seems to be so much more now. There are other names that will push the ones we remember to the sidelines. Carli Lloyd doesn’t seem to like it all that much when it happens to her, though we can expect others to act a little more diplomatically if they become in charge of the impact in favor of those in need. younger players. Probably.
The rest of the world is catching up quickly. For the USWNT to stay ahead, they’ll need the new dimension that players like Rodman provide. This may just be a glimpse of the last generation that is fighting the death of light.
