The number of Koenigsegg CC850 increased to 70 due to high demand


CC8S is By Koenigsegg first car 20 years ago and to celebrate the Swedes supercar The manufacturer has built an homage – CC850. 2022 is also the year that company founder Christian von Koenigsegg turns 50, so only 50 CC850s will be produced, or at least there will be.

Due to increased demand, Koenigsegg decided to increase production to 70. From the outside, it is clear that the CC850 has received a lot of design influence from the CC8S. We get to see typical Koenigsegg features like teledial wheels, wraparound windshield, large side air intakes and of course, “synchronizing” doors that look like mine.

The interior is also a bit different when the CC850 offers open-port gearshift paddles (with automatic mode, but more will be available later) and an analog gauge cluster. The CC8S’ signature rotary dial switches on the dashboard are clearly considered too classic for the CC850 as we might see a vertical touchscreen instead. There’s also plenty of exposed carbon fiber and a pair of very slim bucket seats.

Despite the nod to the CC8S, underneath the CC850 is more like the company’s latest version Gemera, Jesko and Regera supercars (or ‘megacars’ according to Koenigsegg). The 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces 1,366 horsepower, twice the capacity of the CC8S. There is also 1385Nm of torque available. The flat-crank, dry-dump engine can run on synthetic fuel and doesn’t use a flywheel for improved responsiveness. The red line is located at 8,500 rpm.

That engine is mated to a new transmission that offers both manual and automatic transmissions. The open gate isn’t just for show as we can see three pedals in the driver’s footrest. The ‘Engage Shift System’ as Koenigsegg calls it can change the ratio of the six-speed transmission to deliver different performance depending on the driving mode you’re in. The automatic transmission features nine gears for a more relaxing driving experience.

Koenigsegg managed to achieve 1,385kg with the CC850 thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and Kevlar body panels in its monocoque frame. We’re yet to get performance figures but expect a time of under three seconds 0-62mph and a top speed of over 200mph, making it a real contender for another supercar with a manual transmission – the Gordon Murray Car T.50.

Despite an expected price tag in the millions of dollars, the combination of rarity and some pretty subtle details means the CC850 is sold out. Koenigsegg has produced several right-hand drive versions of its car in the past, so we could see a small number of the 50 coming to the UK.
