The new Mercedes-AMG One supercar will be produced in Coventry

Once completed, the entire batch is then separated again so that individual components can be painted by hand.

Every part of the vehicle’s powertrain – the 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine, the high-voltage battery and the four electric motors – is hot-tested before complete assembly. It’s a similar process to that done for the company’s F1 engine.

However, unlike an F1 car, the One hypercar also undergoes the same mundane tests as A class hatchback – it has to withstand a simulated monsoon rain without leaks, get NVH tweaked and then complete final testing before being sold. It took more than 50 professionals to get to this stage.

The best job on employees? Test drive – because each AMG One must complete an on-road decommissioning process before being cleared to leave the factory.

Engine and performance

After a period of difficult development, Mercedes-AMG has finally announced a production-ready version of its One hypercar, powered by an F1 derived from mixture the powertrain makes a total of 1,048 hp. If you had to ask, prices start at £2.5 million.

The Mercedes-AMG One is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine derived from Mercedes’ F1 powertrain technology. The development shows that the road car company has worked closely with the team’s High Performance Powertrain division based in Brixworth, UK.

Mercedes’ 1.6-liter V6 drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission developed specifically for the One. It’s paired with an 8.4kWh battery – directly cooled and performance-focused – that powers no less than four electric motors. These engines offer all-wheel drive and 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds. Top speed is 218mph.

The battery has an onboard 3.7kW charger, which means it will take about two hours and 20 minutes to charge. It also captures power from electric motors when the car brakes, plus a igniter that can be used to recharge while on the move.

The petrol unit produces 566bhp and revs to 11,000rpm; it’s powered by a ‘MGU-K’ (the F1 term for electric motor) on the engine’s crankshaft delivering 161 hp, while a pair of Engine Generators on the front axle deliver a combined 322 hp. The final electric motor is the MGU-H which acts as an electronically controlled turbocharger to improve throttle response.

All-wheel drive AMG’s 4MATIC+ performance is fully variable, and the AMG One can be driven in all-electric mode for up to 11 km.

Frame and suspension

The One’s chassis technology is as advanced as its powertrain, with a carbon fiber monocoque frame that uses the engine and transmission as the bearing, just like in the F1. It’s wrapped in carbon fiber body panels, which help keep the car’s weight down to 1,695kg, while the suspension uses a five-link push rod set up at both the front and rear.

The adaptive dampers offer three settings – Comfort, Sport and Sport+ – while the ESP also has three operating stages: Highway, Sport Handling Mode (allows more slip for a sportier drive) ) And off.

Besides the adaptive suspension, the AMG One also offers different modes for its active aerodynamics. These include Highway, which closes the wheel arches, prevents the spoilers from acting on the front diffuser, and fixes the rear wing in its retracted position.

Track mode opens the air vents, widening the front diffuser and rear spoiler for maximum downforce. It actually increases this up to five times over Highway mode. Finally, the Race DRS mode can be activated at the touch of a button, just like in the F1 car, reducing drag and downforce (according to Mercedes by about 20%) to increase top speed on long stretches.

New feature of 10-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels with central locking. Driving mode

To further personalize the driving experience, there are six driving modes. Race Safe is the default mode that treats the powertrain as a hybrid, prioritizing the electric powertrain when starting.

EV mode does what you’d expect, limiting the powertrain to only electric power, while Race Plus delivers on the car’s aerodynamics and active suspension, lowering the ride height by 37mm at the rear. front and 30mm at the rear to improve downforce. It also enhances the adaptive dampers and loads up another calibration, more focused on the chassis systems.

Design and materials

The inside of the AMG One is just as luxurious as its exterior, featuring style markers such as large fins on the engine hood and taillights emulating Mercedes’ three-pointed star emblem. Much of the body’s work is also in the exposed carbon fiber.
