The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 promises to beat Tesla with a range of up to 379 miles

More details have been released on new fully electric Hyundai Ioniq The six saloons, revealed a few months ago and set to go on sale in the UK later this year, include its claimed maximum range of 379 miles – five more miles than Tesla Model 3 Range.

The new model, named Electric Streamliner by Hyundaiuses much of the same technology as the brand’s award-winning technology Ioniq 5 crossovers, including the E-GMP platform, can be equipped with a 58 or 77.4 kWh battery pack. However, using the latest technology and with its super-smooth shape (it has a drag efficiency of only 0.21Cd), the Ioniq 6 is able to beat the Ioniq 5’s maximum claimed range of 64 miles.

Things could get better for the Ioniq 6 with over-the-air software updates that could increase range even further. Speaking to Auto Express at the vehicle’s technical debut ahead of the Busan Motor Show in South Korea, Thomas Schemera, Hyundai Executive Vice President, Global Marketing Director and Head of Customer Experience, “Over-the-air software will allow us to update key control systems, including battery monitoring, for even better performance and enhanced customer ownership experience,” told us. row. “

The Ioniq 6 is expected to arrive in UK showrooms before the end of the year, and although pricing and specifications have yet to be announced, Auto Express expects the car to cost not much more than its predecessor. its Ioniq 5 brethren.

That could mean prices starting around £43,000 for the entry-level 58kWh two-wheel drive version, rising to around £57,000 for the top-of-the-range 77.4kWh battery model with all-wheel drive, 316bhp, engine- 605Nm of torque and 0- 62mph time of just 5.1 seconds.

Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture can support both 400V and 800V charging, with 800V charging as standard. Using a 350kW charger, the Ioniq 6 can charge from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.

When it arrives, Ioniq 6 will be sent into battle against the Nissan Ariyaas TeslaModel 3 of and Polestar 2. However, the Ioniq has an advantage up its sleeve: rear space.

At 4,855mm, it’s longer than its main rivals, including Tesla, and with a 2,950mm wheelbase, it offers impressive rear space. A 6-foot-tall rear passenger can sit behind a similarly sized driver with significantly more knee space than rivals, while the sloping roofline doesn’t compromise headroom either.

However, unlike some rivals, the Ioniq 6 is just a saloon, with a narrow opening for luggage storage, while Hyundai has yet to reveal details about the overall capacity of the trunk.

The Ioniq 6’s dashboard is themed similarly to the 5 with dual 12-inch driver and infotainment displays on the dashboard. There are also additional screens in the wings at each end of the dash, for a camera system that can replace traditional door mirrors – possibly only on top-spec UK models.

The vehicle’s power window switches are located in the center console to provide a slim and uncluttered door panel that intelligently illuminates with reflective textures in up to 64 colors. The Speed Sync Lighting mode can also change the brightness of the interior lights in front of the cabin based on the car’s speed.

Other conveniences include the EV Performance Tuning system, which allows the driver to adjust steering effort, electric motor power, accelerator pedal sensitivity and driving modes. And e-ASD, an audio technology, changes the spaceship-like sound inside the vehicle based on the vehicle’s driving state.

Auto Express expects a Ioniq 6 WOMEN pattern of joining the squad at several stages. While Hyundai won’t confirm a performance version, an Ioniq 6 N model could also link nicely with the Ioniq 6 replacing the Veloster N in the all-electric ETCR e-Touring Car World Cup series.
