MG teased MG7 – a new luxury, full-size sportback saloon – on social media ahead of its full reveal on August 17. This new internal combustion engine model will be on MG5 and MG6 on the company’s listing, but we can’t see it being sold here in the UK, or actually outside of China.
Enhancing the design language of new all-electric hatchback MG4there is more than one suggestion about Cupra was born to the sharp nose and mesh bumpers, while the teardrop-shaped sweep lines and tail are reminiscent of Mustang Mach-E and Audi e-tron GT. Given its eye-catching design, it’s perhaps no surprise that the MG7 will be used to advertise the company’s new Black Label Series nameplate, which will be intended for high-end models.
In terms of size, the MG7 is made slightly longer than the Audi A5 – to meet the demand for rear legroom of the Chinese market. Expect those slim lines to free up plenty of interior space for four passengers and a practical trunk, retaining the saloon trunk lid.
MG has yet to reveal any images of the car’s interior, but it will most likely feature an infotainment-heavy design with a large center screen and another display behind the steering wheel.
Although the MG7 has the streamlined lines of an EV, it runs on gasoline. The 405 VTGI Trophy model is said to have a 2.0-liter petrol engine producing 254 hp and 405 Nm of torque through a nine-speed ZF transmission.
Underneath it you’ll find the 300 VTGI with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 183bhp and 300Nm of torque. It comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. MG is also said to be planning high-performance plug-in hybrid models.
The European market’s growing preference for SUVs and the rise in electrification mean that the UK launch of the MG7 will surprise us, but confirmation will come when the car is first launched. first later this month.
