MG teased a new one fully electric entry for the UK lineup, to be revealed at the end of 2022. While unconfirmed, the car is expected to carry the MG4 name, according to data on the brand’s UK website Brother.
This suggests that it will be a hatchback one size up from the brand MG3 supermini. However, MG has confirmed the size of the car, with a length of 4.3 meters. This will put the MG4 in competition with family hatchbacks that are about the same size as Volkswagen Golf Course. That means, with an all-electric powertrain, the MG4 will be a direct rival to cars like Volkswagen ID.3, Citroen e-C4 and the upcoming Peugeot e-308.
No specs are hinted at, but its dimensions overlap with ZS, so it is possible that the MG4 will use the same platform, battery and electric motor technology as the brand’s low-cost electric SUV. MG just updated the ZS with a significant upgrade that includes a new battery, with a new long-range version of the car using a 73kWh cell capable of going 273 miles on a single charge, according to the report. However, the trailer hints at some of the styling on offer. The side skirts with classy black plastic cladding suggest that the MG 4 could be a raised hatch similar to the ID.3, rather than a more conventional car, driving lower like a an internal combustion engine family hatchback, as is the case with Peugeotof the e-308 is all-electric.
The rear end design signals that the MG4 will usher in a whole new design language, with a new full-width LED taillight bar curving around the rear, not too different from the design used on the car. Kia EV6.
Interestingly, MG says that the new car has been “developed with UK consumers in mind”. The brand’s UK strategy means a number of electric models such as Marvel CHEAP SUVs are available in Europe, but not here. Even so, the MG4 is sure to receive a pan-European launch.
More details will be provided closer to the car’s reveal, which takes place in Q4 2022.
