The NBA should have postponed the Mavericks/Warriors game

Thoughts and prayers are the worst things you can offer in times like these. The bible says that faith without works is dead, which means all those prayers are in vain without the law. And thoughts? Well, just because people hope – or think – we can go back to the world we lived in before Columbine and Sandy Hook, that doesn’t mean we won’t have some guts from Republicans.

However, on Wednesday, social media was flooded with tweets and “thoughts and prayers” from the usual suspects – elected citizens and officials who can do something to put an end to it. these posts and tweets, but the people who always refuse. And because of that, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was furious.

“’When will we do something! ‘ he declared.

For the eleventh time, Kerr used her platform to talk about one of the evils of this country. From racial issues to gun violence, he’s always been central and unafraid with his words when something easily preventable happens in a way that leaves so many of us wondering. “How do we keep getting here?”

In case you haven’t noticed in the last few years, or throughout the history of this country, things tend to change when white men get angry. This is a list of just a few epic moments that have occurred as a result of white men getting really upset with something or someone.

  • Boston Tea Party
  • civil war
  • Charlottesville
  • January 6

“Angry whites” are an essential part of American history, as they are the only people allowed to openly indulge in everything. Black men and women become villains when they/we get mad, so we try our best not to be a stereotype. And people from other minorities are often asked to shut up or “go back to where they came from” any time they try to speak truth to authority in an attempt to hold people accountable.

Well, except that time in Florida.

Do you remember Bubbles? Remember that day the Milwaukee Bucks flew solo and decided that the playoff game against the Orlando Magic could wait a day, as Jacob Blake became the latest example of police brutality and gun violence when he We got shot seven times in the back by the police?

That day was August 26, 2020. Basketball was suspended, bringing the rest of the sports world to a halt. It’s proof that the post-season period and the pursuit of a championship aren’t as important as they might imagine, as these athletes are playing the child’s game.

“When we go to court and represent Milwaukee and Wisconsin, we are expected to play at a high level, give our best effort and be accountable to each other. We hold ourselves to that standard, and in this moment we are demanding the same from our legislators and law enforcement,” read part of the statement from Bucks players.

Two days later, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver publicly supported the move in a letter in which he “wholeheartedly supports the NBA and WNBA player(s) and their commitment to illuminating important issues of social justice.”

If it’s cool in 2020, why doesn’t it happen on Tuesday night?

That’s the very annoying thing about this. Because if this was a tournament that was supposed to be against social issues, then match 4 of the Western Conference finals, a game in the same state and only 355 miles away, should have been postponed.

This is not a time when we should argue about which shooting is worse in the “Olympic Suppression”, but rather a time when we should recognize that both cases stem from violence. guns, whether it’s from citizens or the police. There are too many guns in this country, because the Second Amendment should be seen as a relic instead of a battle for the people, and police departments want to stock up on guns unnecessarily.

So, for all of you who woke up feeling annoyed this morning, remember that feeling the next time you walk into the voting booth. Because otherwise, you’ll just be disqualified for tweeting “thoughts and prayers” while you watch a basketball game that should have been postponed.
