Royal Parks bosses have asked mourners to stop leaving Paddington bears and marmalade sandwiches in memory of the Queen – and stick to unwrapped flowers instead.

Children across the country paid their respects to teddy bears and bread to give a nod to the delightful sketch filmed for the Queen’s Platinum Year in June.

But Royal Parks, the company that manages the venue dedicated to the memorial services at Green Park, said only unwrapped floral objects should be left in memory of His Majesty.

They are encouraging people to leave only the ‘organic’ material so it can start to decompose.

In a statement on their website released this morning Royal Parks said: ‘Unfortunately, no gifts and artifacts will be accepted and the public will be asked not to bring these in. park.

‘It is not recommended to bring non-flowering objects/artifacts such as teddy bears or balloons.’

Tens of thousands of people flocked to Green Park next to Buckingham Palace this morning to leave flower bouquets, tributes and cuddly toys in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth.

Royal gardeners have been tasked with removing plastic wrap from the flowers placed, as members of the public have come to help.

The Royal Parks website says flower packages should be removed before being left, to help them last long and help with compost, which will begin after the Queen’s funeral on Monday, September 19 .

In a simple but moving tribute posted on Twitter, Paddington Bear said: ‘Thank you for everything.’

They estimate that memorial flowers will begin to be delivered seven to 14 days after the funeral takes place.

The composted material will be used for shrubbery and landscaping projects across the Royal Parks.

Royal tags and labels will be accepted but will be periodically transferred for off-site storage and lit candles will be extinguished and discarded.

The flowers left by Buckingham Palace will be delivered to Green Park at the end of each day.

A memorial service for the king after her death on Thursday at Balmoral Castle included sandwiches with the words ‘For Later!’ written on them.

On Twitter on Thursday, the Paddington account said simply: ‘Thank you, for everything,’ referring to his farewell in the video.

Today marks the second official day of mourning for the Queen. Her coffin arrived in Edinburgh earlier today to rest at Holyroodhouse Palace overnight as tens of thousands of people lined the streets.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that beloved daughter Princess Anne will accompany the late King’s body to London ahead of the funeral.

On Monday, the coffin will be taken to St Giles’ Church, where it will rest until Tuesday.

After lying dormant for 24 hours, the coffin will be taken to RAF Northolt on Tuesday and taken to Buckingham Palace by road.

It will be taken to Westminster Hall on Wednesday to lie in state until the morning of the funeral on September 19. Members of the public will be able to see the coffin as it lies.

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will be held on Monday, September 19 at Westminster Abbey at 11am – which today King Charles declared will be a bank holiday.
