Rising interest rates dealt a fatal blow to mortgage originators in the first quarter.
Lenders issued about $859 billion in mortgages in the first quarter, down 25% year-over-year, according to data released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Tuesday. This quarter also marked the first time since the beginning of 2020, the origin fell below 1 trillion USD
