The Morning After: Meta’s Next Generation VR Headset Leaked

Meta’s Quest Pro headset is coming next month, but there are always leaks to spoil the party. In a video from Ramiro Cardenas, you can see a black headset with three cameras on the front like what we have seen on Project Cambria headsets. Cardenas says many devices (labeled “engineering models”) have left in a hotel room. Sorry.

We also took a closer look at a pair of new controllers, with a new design replacing the previous iteration controllers. The packaging says “Meta Quest Pro” – so maybe that’s the name. The hype may be dead, but the technology continues to evolve. Expect better motion tracking, a higher quality display, and more.

Virtual reality will increase again within the next 12 months. Along with Meta’s new headset, Sony’s PS VR 2 headset will arrive next year. In fact, expect to hear more on PlayStation VR titles after today.

The Flip 4 is also $100 off.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the pinnacle of foldable smartphones, but it’s also the company’s most expensive phone at $1,800. If you’ve had your eye on one but find the price hard to accept, there’s good news. You can already buy one for $1,600 ($200 off) at Amazon, just a few short weeks after it went on sale. Oh, and you can make stickers from the pictures. The software is available on iPhone 8 and newer devices.

The company has also previewed more exploratory features.

Roku’s new subwoofer, the Wireless Bass, costs $130. That’s $50 less than the Roku Wireless Bass Pro and there are some compromises. It has a 5.25-inch subwoofer, compared to the Pro’s 10-inch subwoofer, and is front-lit instead of down-firing. The wireless bass is also less oomph, with 120W peak power compared to the 250W of the Wireless Bass Pro. Roku has also unveiled a new version of its entry-level streaming media player, Roku Express. The latest model comes with dual-band WiFi, which will likely improve streaming performance. The $30 device streams video in 1080p, so you’ll need consider other models if you want to watch TV and movies in 4K format.

The new Pixelbook is said to be “in development.”

According to an internal memo reported by The Verge, Google is killing its Pixelbook laptop development. It seems to have “closed” the workgroup on the next generation of devices. The move means that Google has officially made laptops after nearly a decade of experimenting with laptops. This means more resources will be devoted to the company big screen version of Android?
