The US may have the edge in semiconductor design, but manufacturing is still the crown jewel of places like Taiwan. To combat this, the Biden administration has mapped out where it will allot the $50 billion investment that the CHIPS act authorized. Of that, $28 billion is to promote domestic production of advanced logic and memory chips. The funds will be distributed in the form of grants, partnership agreements, loan guarantees, or loan grants. Another $10 billion is to improve chip production especially for the automotive, medical equipment and defense industries. And $11 billion goes to US research and development facilities, with the intention of creating new chip technologies to be implemented on US soil. It’s a huge undertaking, and one that acknowledges the importance of staying ahead in the chip world or risking falling behind forever.

And Meta’s Virtual Connect event will go live on October 11
When one tech giant announced its new device listing, two others set dates for their own parties. Google has marked October 6 for Pixel 7 and Pixel Watch Events, with a live broadcast from New York City starting at 10 a.m. ET. Google shared a lot about what we can expect from the show at this summer’s I/O developer conference. So we can expect the new Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Watch to grab the attention. Then on October 11th, Meta will hold Event connection to show off all that’s new with augmented and virtual reality. We expect this to be the first official launch of Facebook’s Project Cambria, a high-end VR headset that will likely be sold as Meta Quest Pro. Add to that another attempt or two to make Facebook’s vision of our augmented future look a little less cramped.

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is solving the problem effects of a ransomware attack that occurred on September 3. Officials have begun working with other federal agencies to resolve the issue and have locked down other of its systems. The attack affected the district’s business systems, but school operations and classrooms are still operational – as are school safety and emergency systems. Hopefully, this latest cyberattack against US organizations will push better security to the top of the agenda to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
T-Mobile’s preference for calling out rivals prompted it to sue one more time.
Well, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a major clash between phone carriers, and so AT&T is here to keep us all entertained. The mobile giant lobbied a lawsuit through T-Mobile’s window, alleging the magenta supplier engaged in false advertising against its competitors. The issue revolves around a premium discount that AT&T is testing in Florida, giving users over 55 a cheaper phone plan. T-Mobile, which already offers the Unlimited 55+ plan nationwide, appealed to AT&T, saying it only offers a premium discount for Floridians. Of course, AT&T thinks that T-Mobile is not playing fair and will take everything to court to ask to withdraw the lawsuit.
