The Ministry of Telecommunications lifts restrictions on mobile network connections near borders: Details

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Tuesday announced that it has lifted restrictions on telecom operators providing connectivity near international border areas. Previous licensing standards stipulated that operators would have to “blur” their network signal, in front of international borders around the country, which would require the installation of special equipment. The revised standards also include the removal of security conditions allowing for spot checks of operators in those areas.

In a move that could improve connectivity in locations around the border, DoT on Tuesday announced in a circular that it revised the lience norms to remove restrictions on telecommunications connectivity near international border areas.

Previously, security conditions under unified licensing agreements required that telecommunications operators ensure that base stations, mobile hotspots, or radio transmitters provided connectivity and services. mobile phones as far from the border as possible.

At the same time, operators were previously required to ensure – using technical infrastructure – that radio signals were “blurred” near or about to cross international borders.

The circular also removes provisions relating to unscheduled inspections by the telecommunications ministry or the military and security agencies, to ensure compliance with the now-removed security conditions, including an action severe penalties for violations of standards, including financial penalties.
