Princeton was in the Sweet 16 for the first time since Bill Bradley led the Tigers there in 1967. It was eight years before Princeton’s current head coach, Mitch Henderson, was born. After a short opening by Fairleigh Dickinson, Princeton has established itself as the Saint Peter’s of 2023. There’s something in the water in New Jersey. It’s weird to call Princeton Cinderella, consider it $36 billion in funding, but here we are. There must be a better term for this wealth story. Maybe let’s go back to the Cinderella reference and name them the Snow White of the league, as a nod to their history as a dormant basketball royal. reawakened by Prince(ton) Charming, Mitch Henderson.
On the pitch, Ivy League Player of the Year, Tosan Evbuomwan was the catalyst. 6-foot-8, 219-pound forward from Newcastle, England, is the closest thing to the Cinderella story. Evbuomwan was a late bloomer whose father sent highlight tapes to Ivy League schools in the hopes that one would get a chance. Princeton did and Evbuomwan is repaying Princeton for doing so by scoring 15 points, £6.2, and making nearly five assists per night this season.
