The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power premiered on Thursday, September 1, with the first two episodes showing on Amazon Prime Video.

While the new series has teased many of the show’s central characters, including familiar faces like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), who both appeared in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, one of our fan favorites was significantly absent from the original plot: Círdan.

Described as ‘the oldest and wisest of the elves’, it turns out that Círdan the Shipbuilder won’t appear in the first eight episodes of this season one, but fans will be happy to know that he will be released in part two.

In a recent interview with TimeThe series co-presenter JD Payne has announced that the writers are sure to introduce the man considered one of the most beloved elves created by The Lord Of The Rings author JRR Tolkien.

“We don’t want to give away too much, but one character that we’re excited for people to meet in Season 2 is Círdan the Shipbuilder,” Payne revealed, “In our story, he’s the man oldest known goblin in Middle-earth – in fact he lived a long time, he had a beard. ‘

In the famous text, Tolkien describes Círdan as the only elf with a beard.

Although Payne did not elaborate on who will play Círdan in The Rings Of Power, the news still has many fans raving about his appearance.

Círdan the Shipwright is best known as the owner of Gray Havens, the port city from which visitors to Valinor depart. In Peter Jackson’s trilogy, Círdan is briefly seen accomplishing that task, according to Inverse.

However, he has plays a fundamental role in the Second Middle-earth Era, the period in which the new prequel series is set to explore.
