This weekend, the FIM MotoGP World Championship made its annual pilgrimage to Assen, the Church of Motor Racing. This year’s Dutch TT did not disappoint and delivered the quality of racing that has earned the circuit its nickname. The race is a frenzied collision and the overtaking struggle will play a major role in determining this year’s world champion.

Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia won pole position on Saturday, his fourth of the season. On Sunday, Bagnaia and teammate Jack Miller were elected to start the race with soft compound front tires. Ducati has struggled with tire wear so far this season. In the past five laps, Bagnaia won two laps and was eliminated from the remaining three.

At the start of the race, Francesco Bagnaia warmed up very well and was the first driver to cross the first corner. Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo was able to get ahead of Ducati from second place on the leaderboard, but he pushed his bike off the track. The error left the Yamaha rider in the sights of Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaró, who overtook him a few corners later..

The following laps, Quartararo abandoned the car while trying to regain second place until the end of turn 5. As he slid over the sidewalk, his Yamaha made contact with Aleix Espargaró on the outside of him. Espargaro was able to keep Aprilia upright through the gravel trap, but he fell to 15th.

Fabio Quartaro was able to climb back into his YZR-M1, and he drove into the pit lane to retire. Yamaha has decided not to retire and bring the reigning world champion back to the track. Then Quartararo will collide again 5. He bounces his bike high when he comes out of the corner and is thrown hard into the air. The first crash damaged a traction control sensor on his Yamaha. Quartararo was able to stand up under his own strength. Even so, he was limping after the high-ball hit and was clearly furious with his situation.

When Francesco Bagnaia crossed the finish line to beat the Dutch president, Aleix Espargaró still wanted to salvage as many points as possible. At the start of the final lap, Aprilia’s driver was in seventh place. Espargaró overtook Jorge Martín for sixth place and trailed KTM’s Jack Miller and Brad Miller. The Aprilia driver threw his car inside of both riders as they rounded the last corner, taking fourth place with a stellar move.
