Many of North America’s top males The joy of kittens died July 15 on his lawn at Hill ‘n’ Dale Ranch in Xalapa of an apparent heart attack. He’s 21 years old.

El Prado’s son is the pride and joy of his owners/herders late Ken and Sarah Ramsey, who bred him from their winning daughter Lear Fan Kitten’s First . The mare was the first racehorse purchased by Sarah Ramsey with the pet name “Kitten”.

“Ken Ramsey believes in him and almost wants the horse to be great,” John Sikura told Hill ‘n’ Dale, who bought half of the horse in 2017 and moved it back to his ranch. At the time, Ramsey felt the stallion’s descendant was not getting enough respect with his incredible sales, despite his proven success, and threatened to sell him to him. a farm in Europe.

“He’s underrated here, and I don’t think things will get any better,” Ramsey said at the time. Sarah Ramsey had other ideas and forged a deal her husband had struck up with a farm in England.

“I’m glad she intervened,” Ken Ramsey told BloodHorse. “She said he was a special horse, and she loved seeing him on the ranch.”

Ramsey also received a call from Sikura, who made a compelling argument to keep the horse in America and let Hill ‘n’ Dale manage it.

“I begged him about why the horse had to stay here, and he gave us a great vote of confidence by giving us a horse that did,” Sikura said. “The horse always has a magnetic energy that you don’t always see; you can see the strength in it. Despite the pain in the knee joint, it always stands on tiptoe when it comes to the stables.

“He really is a remarkable male and that term is probably used more often than necessary,” he continued. “It should be reserved for great people and he’s a great, generational god.”

Kitten’s Joy was taken to his lawn on the morning of July 15 and released peacefully. About an hour later, farm workers noticed him lying motionless in the middle of the lawn.

“The word ‘sad’ is probably not the right emotion. It’s more respectful,” Sikura said. “Honoring what he has achieved and the privilege of having such a great stallion on the farm. He lacked nothing and lived a full life. He died almost peacefully; It was so sudden and he wasn’t in pain at all. It was a beautiful sight to eat grass and take his last breath. It was a decent way to pass.”

Kitten’s Joy will be buried at Ramsey Ranch.
